Modem on XP Clean Install

#1 Post by Vaz » Wed Mar 28, 2007 2:41 am

I am trying to get the modem driver installed on XP fresh install on TP60.

The modem driver install keeps reporting "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver."

I have applied that MS' KB888111, High Def Audio Driver Package.

PC Doctor 5 can see the modem and successfully tests it!

I've looked thru threads in this forum on that issue but no resolution!

I have just done reinstall of XPSP2 again.

What I am missing?

I assume you are trying to install the following?

Modem driver for Windows 2000, XP, Vista (32 and 64bit) - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

EDIT: You have to install: 888111 Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver version 1.0a available for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000 before installing the above driver.

Finally fixed the problem.

A file in KB888111 install was older than Windows' file! Seems that it will not copy a file that's older on PC.

In some way I got to load that file and it's now working.

I don't recall which file it was. I used this nLite software, basically I integrated KB888111 hotfix and when nLite asked me that one file on XP install set was newer than hotfix, I told nLite to replace it regardless. And then I used nLite created image to install XP. That's how I discovered the problem. Note that I used XP SP2 install files with nLite. can't say for pre SP2 install (SP1, etc)
