Advanced dock - ultrabay not working!

#1 Post by he46570 » Wed Mar 28, 2007 3:44 pm

Hey all. Wondering whether you can help with this bizarre issue.

I have a T60p and Advanced Dock. The Advanced Dock seems to work fine in terms of USB, DVI and analog output. However, the Ultrabay Slim device is not recognized (it doesn't even show up in the Hardware Manager). I know it is powered, since the LED briefly lights when it is inserted into the dock, and I am able to eject the tray. However, no actual drive is detected.

In addition, I think the SPDIF output isn't working. I guess it should show up as an additional audio output, but again, there's nothing in the hardware manager.

I explained the issue to Lenovo support, and they promptly sent another dock to me. Same issue. They advised me to do a BIOS update with the T60p docked. Same issue. Since dock swapping didn't work, I'm assuming it's not a hardware issue and instead a software driver issue.

Can anyone give any insights? Thanks in advance!

I have a t60p with an advanced dock and just tested mine, with the t60p docked I ejected the burner and placed it into the dock and then read a DVD, no probs.

I did a BIOS update last week, can't recall the version, and did the update out of the dock.

Thanks for posting... yeah, I don't know what's the deal here. The Ultrabay Slim devices are supposed to be compatible with the dock (which is actually Ultrabay Enhanced, but supposedly compatible with Ultrabay Slim, see http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay).

I'm at a loss. Lenovo don't know what to do, and neither do I...

This is really a long shot...

When you attach your Thinkpad to the Advanced Dock, press down very firmly at the rear on both sides, then firmly across the rear edge. When I do this, I hear several "clicks" as the Thinkpad attaches to the dock.

I'm just wondering if maybe you aren't fully connected to the dock.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
