A31 CPU not at full speed.

#1 Post by SaberX » Thu Mar 29, 2007 8:33 pm

First i want to say i used the serch and found a few posts about it but did not help.
I have an A31 with P-4 M 1.6Ghz cpu.
I did fresh install of XP Pro for the first time on this laptop.Well for me anyway.
I see the right cpu named in a few places in windows as a 1.6Ghz.
I installed SpeedswitchXP and it's saying current cpu: 1198 Mhz.
And the Maximum cpu: 1198MHz.
It's set to Max Performance.
I went into the bios and also set it to Max performance.I even tryed to turn off the intel speed stepting.
But it's still showing up as 1198Mhz.

I than installed CPUID.And that also says i have a 1.6Ghz but running at 1198Mhz.
Can any one shead some light on this?

Well i cant figger it out and how to get it to run at full speed all the time.
BUT i was thinking that will create alot of heat in the system. And where thease A30's and A31(like mine) has a big problem with the ATI video chip burrning out because of heat.I'm just going to set the BIOS at defult and leave it at that.
BUT now another question...

What do you people use for a good motherboard/cpu/fan speed, ect monitor??

There's nothing to worry about the heat temp. I had a T30 with 1.6GHz P4-m and after putting Arctic Silver 5 the machine barely overheats. You could try TPFanControl to see if it works on your machine.

Concerning the processor not running at full power, try setting Windows Power Manager profile to Always On, that should keep the processor running at full steam

Hi,
Do you have a battery plugged into A31?
You have to have it to run A31x (and some other P4M-based Thinkpads) on full speed.
I hope this helps,
Thanks,
Val

i use MobileMonitor, which i'm quite sure i picked up on download.com. i don't know if it's the best, but it is very configureable and seems to be doing the job. it's also small, not eating up much desktop space. i hide it in between modules on Google Desktop.
