Wireless g for T21
Anyone know where to buy a wireless card upgrade for T21? I saw one on eBay but now sold out, it was a Atheros 5213a a/b/g 108Mbps Wireless WLAN WIFI Mini PCI Card.

The best way for Wifi on the T21 is a PCMCIA Wireless G card. This is usually found around $35-45 at a computer store. You can do internal Wifi, but you will loose your ethernet and modem and will have to find a way to install the internal antenna. Going with the PCMCIA card is the best option. It's simple and works great.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I would also endorse the use of a PCMCIA Wi-FI card.
I tried to use an internal mini-pci wi-fi card with an internal antenna in the base and behind the LCD. I tried all the antenna positions suggested in other threads on this site. None performed as well as my Netgear PCMCIA card.

I'm really green, though learning, do I need a certain type or should I just ask down my local computer store??? A link would be handy!
Failing that I'll take a butchers this evening then take actual card down local computer shop. I reckon I can install it myself, I have found the laptop exceptionally easy to take apart and put back together with help of manual. Yey!

None is more green than me, but I learn so much here. I know you are looking for wireless g, but I bought a Linksys wireless b notebook card on e-bay for $4 (brand new in package) and went onto the Linksys website and downloaded the driver/utility for it; I have used it many times with my home network and out of the house, works great!
Good luck.
Good luck.

bkn/Stargate199:
R we referring to the PCI 3Com card that came as standard here? If so it don't look like the ones on eBay, has two connectors, one small, one large. If not PCI card then do you have official IBM name as used in service manual?

I think Stargate was referring to the same type of PC card that I use, sometimes called notebook adapters. You can find them cheaper I am sure, but here is a link so you can see what it looks like for the g card you want:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833124110
it just plugs into the PCMCIA slot on the left side of your laptop.

Nope, that card sticking out the left side of your laptop will be the radio signal receiver for the wifi. When you get your card, you 'll need to install the driver (or download it) and then put the card in and configure it with the router once and you're set.

Probably takes a fellow newbie to explain to a newbie like myself! I have learned something there.

You got that right! The majority of the people here are beyond brilliant, but they do push you to try and understand, so it is very worthwhile to keep coming back - if nothing more than to read. You will learn a lot.fleamourian wrote:Probably takes a fellow newbie to explain to a newbie like myself! I have learned something there.

We have all heard it before, but I think that this thread bears brining it up once again:
"There is no stupid question but the that is not asked..."
You came here looking for help, and received it. In the process you learned a few things. It is for this reason (and others) that Bill founded the forums. I am glad everything appears to be working out for you. If you require further assistance, you know where to come.
