T60 memory frequency

#1 Post by rmendoza » Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:29 pm

Hey everyone,

I bought a T60 last December and almost immediately upgraded the RAM to 1.5 gigs. I bought a 1 gb stick from pny. Just yesterday I bought another 1 gb stick from pny, same model number and everything. The machine seems to work fine. When I downloaded cpu-z, it says that it is indeed running in dual channel mode; however, it says that the memory frequency is 332.5 mhz. I am confused, since I thought that this machine ran the memory at 667 mhz. The memory sticks are rated for PC2-5300/667 mhz, so I really don't know if CPU-Z is wrong, the machine is running the memory at a lower speed, or I screwed up somewhere. Any comments of suggestions are welcome.

By the way, the memory is at an excellent price at compusa. You can find it here.

With DDR (Double Data Rate) Memory, you double the indicated speed. 332.5 X2 = 665 Mhz (667 Mhz).

duh!

I had no idea, really. I know that a lot of the forum users here are engineers, but I am not, I am just a literature guy who likes good computers, but sometimes the more arcane technical details escape me.
In any event, thanks for the reply. If what you say is true, then it all seems to be working fine. I am happy and ready to upgrade to Vista DVD that I just got from Lenovo.
