Switching drives between T40 and T20 series

#1 Post by wolverine » Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:31 pm

Hello everyone,

I have been checking ebay and I was happy to see the T40 series is now on prices that I can afford. Presently I own a T23 which I have been upgrading over the years with a new DVD+RW drive and an 80 Gb HDD. My question is: can I switch both these drives with the ones of a T40/1/2 of lower specs for these items? I am not sure if the Ultrabay is the same, but it should be alright about the HD, no? And if the ultrabay trays are not compatible, can I still at least unscrew the drives from the trays and switch them? Will they fit and work?

Thanks a lot for any help on this.

You need to check the thickness of the drives. The T4x series uses 9.5mm thick stuff while, I believe, all of the T2x series used the (older) thicker 12.5mm stuff.

I discovered this when I found out that the spare drive I had from the T2x series system didn't fit into the T4x ultrabay drive tray as a second disk drive.
