Can anyody tell me if you can intall a 650mhz cpu on a 500 mhz systemboard? The systemboard went bad on my 650 mhz 600x, and all I have seen is 500mhz system boards for sale

You can put a 650MHz processor on a 500MHz board, but it won't run at 650MHz. The 650MHz board is SpeedStep enabled, while the 500 is not (at least this is what I'm told).

I think a 500MHz board will provide adequate performance compared to the old 650, and will be a lot cheaper.

Hope this helps.
