What's this?

#1 Post by Slonskiy » Sat Mar 31, 2007 5:01 pm

Hi everyone. My name is Mickey and i'm new to this forum.

I opened up my ThinkPad R40 today and I found a little peice of metal that had a 90 degree bend in it and I don't know what this is or where it goes.

I took pictures of it. Sorry about the picture quality of the photos (I took these with my webcam):

Can anyone please tell me what it is? And more importantly, where it goes? Thanks. :)

I pulled one of those just like it out of my fan a few months ago, no clue what it is, but it hasn't caused any problems.

I think it is the LCD switch which turns the LCD off when the top closes. There should be a little black button close to the hinge on the bezel cover. Maybe it is just a hole now.

I knocked mine off by accident taking the bezel cover on and off. It was held on by two tiny little plastic clips and one of them broke off. I ended up glueing mine back on with Crazy Glue.

Hmmm, my LCD switch still works.

It's the LCD switch lever which turns the LCD off when the top closes.
