My X30 is not loading Windows after login...please help me!

Strange problem. I try to take care of what I do when it comes to software but this really came out of left field.

> DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:
When starting my computer, I get the Windows welcome page and type my password in. It says "Loading Personal Settings..." and does so for...well, as long as I keep it on. It will not load after hours and hours.

I can get into safe mode okay. There, I turned on verbose something in the registry. It tells me just what is being loaded during start up.

>STEPS TAKEN
It used to hang at C:\program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities\[something].dll. I didn't want to delete it, so I just moved the whole folder to the desktop. I can't find any Access Connections stuff in Add/Remove Programs (I got rid of it a while ago...I thought) and I can't run Software Installer in Safe Mode for some reason.

>THE CURRENT ENIGMA
Now a login hangs at C:\windows\system32\wlnotify.dll . I don't want to mess with my Windows files so I turn to help.

>PERSONAL DETAILS
My X30 is my daily driver, the computer I use around campus and in class, as the T23 is connected to all sorts of peripherals and is nicely set up on my desk all the time. Besides, it has no wifi! So I would very much like to get this thing working outside of safe mode for the work week coming up.

I appreciate all your help. Any questions, just ask away, I'll do my best to give you a clear picture.

Thanks so much!

Did you try to load in safe mode and perform a system restore to a previous date?

That may help you.

My startup seems to look fine in msconfig. Is there something else to look at besides the checklist of what to load?

I will check system restore but sadly, I do not think the service was working well for me based on a prior experience. I tried to set it up once but it wouldn't show up in my Start Menu or anywhere else.

It appears Zone Alarm (Pro) was part of the problem. After being happy with it for weeks, I'm going back to Comodo now. Maybe for good...who knows.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time at the moment to fix this. It's pretty harrowing messing with the operating system files as it is. I'm doing my first "Restore and Recover"...ever.

Good thing my X30 is my purely work horse and just has data and internet security software. Got my docs backed up...

I'll let you guys know how it goes through in case this is ever read in the (near/far) future.
