T42P won't hibernate or suspend

#1 Post by yahoojames » Tue Sep 28, 2004 10:52 pm

I have the latest Power Management drivers and BIOS. Anyone else having this problem? Not sure what I installed to make it stop working.

bump.

More info. After selecting standby or shutdown, Windows shows the dialog 'Preparing to XXXX', but then just hangs. The hard drive light still flashes intermittantly.

If you have Alcohol 120 or Daemon-tools, try uninstalling them.

rob, i had that exact same problem on a refurb'd T30 (only happened on the second standby/hibernate). Unfortunately, it was out of warranty, so I never sent it in to IBM.

Maybe you could unpdate your laptop's bios to the newest one.

I've installed BIOS 3.08a and embedded controller 3.03 on IBM's support recommendation (latest versions). Still same problem. After reporting back to them, they said ship it to us. Of course, they'll just do a factory reinstall of windows xp. I could just do that, but I know this will probably happen again.

Do you have the latest version of IBM Access Connections? I remember one of the versions causing Windows not to shut down properly.

Not sure if this will help, but occasionally my TP will not hibernate or suspend, (does nothing. no window, no dialogue.) and it seems the problems is an exe called "certtool.exe". I have no clue what this executable does, but i simply go ahead and kill this program using task manager and my TP is on it's way to hibernate-land.

I haven't had any problems doing this so far. Must have done it 5/6 times so far.
