Re: R60 A/C adapter

A new R60 was delivered to me today at work, so for the next several months I'll get to play with it and see what I think. I do have a quick question or all you R Series users though. I noticed that my unit has a different A/C Adapter than the R40 that's in my living room. This one has a different plug and is rated at 65W/20V. Does anybody know when the change over occurred? And what else is different on this machine than the earlier units?

Hi Schen, glad you're able to try out an R60!
I'm not sure when they changed the adapters but somewhere I read that the 20V version recharges batteries faster and the plug changed so that if you have more Thinkpads around, you don't make a mistake in plugging in the wrong one.
I'll try to remember the source of my information.

This new adapter has appeared to have appeared with the new series of laptops such as the new T60's, R60's, X60's and please correct me if I am wrong the Z series. The barrel appears larger. A real pain as I have been using the same adapters since the 770's and up. I have several around, work, home, other home, and travel bag. Things change. They don't seem to change as much with ThinkPad's though until now.

Thanks... I was pretty sure I knew why as soon as I saw that the new adapter was 20v, but just wanted to know when it happened so I'll know how far up the line I'll be able to go before I have to get a bunch of new adapters. Good article never-the-less; I like the smaller adapter quite a bit.
