If 15" FV discontinued, how is warranty handled if LCD
If 15" FV discontinued, how is warranty handled if LCD
Do you think they have an inventory of 15" FV LCD's for repairs? What happens a year from now if LCD dies??

OUCH
- Let's hope that nobody has to find out.
I think you may be right with an inventory / contingent, but what about the person after the last one's gone
Fact: I recently had to call up regarding a replacement 14" SXGA+ display for a T23, (not under warranty), and was informed that it was no problem - BUT, only as an exchange unit, this suggests to me that they may actually refurbish / repair screens that have been replaced.
I understand that under warranty a manufacturer is not required to replace a part with a "new unused" part, I stand to be corrected on this.

T61p 6460-67G; 15,4 WSXGA+ W7P x64, no hairdryer.
T43p 2668-G2G, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, internal hairdryer
T23 2647-9LG, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, no hairdryer

It is standard policy for many companies to send out or use refurbished parts in the repair/replacement for the system. So, unless there is some state law that prevents this, you are correct.andyP wrote: I understand that under warranty a manufacturer is not required to replace a part with a "new unused" part, I stand to be corrected on this.

Probably the best will be to get drunk and forget there had been decent displays in the pastAlltweed wrote:Do you think they have an inventory of 15" FV LCD's for repairs? What happens a year from now if LCD dies??
My experience is that IBM/Lenovo keeps a reserve of parts, for a very long time.

IBM has a pretty long track record. Lenovo doesn't. From what we've read here, it seems Lenovo's sole source of IPS UXGA displays went bankrupt unexpectedly. Just having a single source indicates that they didn't plan very well. Add to that the lack of warning, and anything is possible. Anyway, I'll find out soon, as I'm about to send mine to the repair shop for a second time with the horizontal line problem.archer6 wrote:My experience is that IBM/Lenovo keeps a reserve of parts, for a very long time.
That's true!!!!okashira wrote:On BOE Hydis's website, they still show the 15" UXGA AFFS in production.

Well, the IDTech japan website also still shows and lists all IPS panels from IDTech...
http://www.idtech.co.jp/en/products/index.html
...but as Sony might have taken over their LCD manufacturing facility, I doubt that there are any production of IDTech notebook panels.
Related to the Boe-Hydis bankruptcy I don't know if they got some investor so they can still produce TFT panels. - The bad thing here is, that Boe-Hydis not only produced the nowadays Thinkpad T60 models UXGA FlexView panels, but also was the strongest supplier for the 12" IPS panels with integrated digitizers for the X60 TabletPC.
However, we have to wait and see what the future might tell.
