1. which is the "Hottest Model" (Highly Heat generated) model would you think?
options: T43 or T60

2. which has the most noisy fan issue??
options: T43 or T60

1. T43 is a bit cozy merely due to factors like older Pentium M processor, gpu etc. Also, if your a gamer or use heavy duty softwares then it's certainly normal for the things to get hot on both models.

2. I don't have issue(s) with any noise on my T60, but most people here are complaining alot lately.

I've owned both. The T60 is hotter, whereas the T43 is louder. Pick your poison.

EDIT: by "The T60 is hotter" I specifically meant its palm rests. I don't know about the rest of the machine nor do I care, because the palm rest temperature has by far the most direct impact on me (i.e. my hands).

I have both and find the T60 (when checked with a temp gun) to be cooler and quieter as well.

wow,
some find the T60 is warm in its palmrest whereas some don't.

quite confused.
Let's say for normal tasking like word processing, surfing, report writing. other than CPU intensive tasks.
what would temperature would incur to these 2 models, T43 & T60 ?

No confusing here. The palmrest of T43 or T60 becomes noticeable warm only when you read and write a lot, e.g. copy big files. Otherwise, it is just as cool as the environment.

I am using both T43 and T60. For the normal tasking you mentioned, there is no noticeable difference between T43 and T60.

But the fans in both models are always on regardless of how you use it, and T43's fan produces a little more noise than T60.

I have both and agree, T60p is much hotter, but T43p fan is much louder.

T60p is also overheating, shutting down all the time, IBM/Lenovo support were unable resolve my problem in the past 6 weeks, 7 or 8 1- 3 hour on-site appointments with techs and one week without the machine when it was sent away, came back and still shuts down all the time.

At that point, with Lenovo having it documented, I would ask for a replacement unit.

There is quite a bit of variability. Some T60 units are cooler than others, and some T43's are more quiet than others.

I cetainly will confirm this finding. Of the hundreds of T60 & T60p models I have deployed within my company, there is indeed some real variables when it comes to the two areas 1) Temps 2) Noise.

However that said, we have yet to have a single failure or an increase in the readings of each specific machine. Very interesting indeed. My take on this based on experience of now over a year on some of these models is as follows.

Regarding temps, it does indeed make quite a difference what the computer is being used for. And then fans must come from a few vendors as I have some where the fan is on and barely noticeable and some where the fan is quite a bit louder. In this case we have narrowed it down to simply the noise produced by the fan. Since Lenovo does not make the fans, it reflects on that component manufacturer more than Lenovo, as the only Lenovo could do, would be to only use fans that meet a certain standard that is narrower than the ones they currently accept and install into the ThinkPads.

If however on the other hand, I found these so noisey that it was unacceptable than that would be another matter.

Certainly not a scientific assessment, however one based on personal experience.

I have a T60 Type 1953-D6U. It runs cooler than my old T42.

They are not replacing it. They keep wanting me to rebuild the machine.

I even bought a new HDD so I can do a restore to satisfy their need for this without having to backup my current HDD, even while doing the restore itself with a set of recovery CDs, during the restore it shuts down and doesn't reboot again, messing up the entire restore, if that is not proof enough for them that it is no "virus", as they tried to make me believe in the beginning ...

The problem was reproduced in front of two on-site techs countless times, and was reproduced with one of their own HDDs with a clean install .. so don't ask me why they keep telling me to rebuild, rebuilt ..

I would assume because they do not want to replace the machine ..
