New R40 user

#1 Post by jimzim66 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 3:09 pm

Hello all...

I recently upgraded from a 600X to an R40, type 2682-HU2. I have two questions.

1: When I go to Lenovo's website to download drivers, it says the model type and such, and where it lists the installed options, shows:
Based on 2682-FXU: P4-M 2.2GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI RADEON 7500, 16x10x24x/8x CDRW/DVD, 802.11b Wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), Ethernet(LOM), Secure Chip, IEEE 1394, 8 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Home
Why does it say "Based on"?

2: My fan goes on off intermittently rather then turning on when the system heats up. It'll stay on for about 2 mins, turn off, then come back on. Is this normal?

Thank you in advance.

There are differences

regarding the fan - IMO the R40 was quiet, problems with heat ???
T61p 6460-67G; 15,4 WSXGA+ W7P x64, no hairdryer.
T43p 2668-G2G, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, internal hairdryer
T23 2647-9LG, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, no hairdryer

Thank you for the reply.

There doesnt seem to be a problem with heat, although the exhaust is somewhat hot...

As an R40 user myself, the thing will get up to 60C then the fan will kick on then shut off later. :?

Yea, itll warm up, then come on for a few mins, kick off, come on, go off, etc. etc.

I dont have any temperature monitoring software on here so I dont know when exactly the fan is coming on, but I do know the fan isnt the quietest.

Yep, that's what it does.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I've never used a system where the fan goes on and off with the frequency of the R40.

Hi Zim
Have you ever used speed fan? It is very helpful for monitoring fans
and other good stuff. Mike.
