90-100% CPU usage when on wireless

#1 Post by woweriux » Tue Apr 03, 2007 6:46 pm

I had to reinstall windows the other day and when I had to choose which drivers to install fro my Thinkpad R51 2895-UN3 I had to choose manually "11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter"...although i had three other choices this one seemed to give me less trouble.

BUT everytime my wireless is on, my CPU usage goes up to 100%...and im not even doing anything! Although it says that my system idle process is at 80% or so, the CPU usage overall is literally 100%..Everything seems to be working fine if i disable my wireless network adapter.

At first I thought it was the drivers fault (i still do) so i tried the other network adapters with no such luck...then i read something about conflicting IRQ's but im not sure if this applies here...do you guys know what could be the problem?

Comp Specs:

Thinkpad R51 2895-UN3
Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel Pentium M
1500MHz, 1.20Ghz
504 MB RAM ( although i put in 512 it only shows up as either 502 or 504...i know its weird)

Whenever I have that problem I check task manager and it is usually a svchost.exe program. I turned off automatic update and got rid of windows defender and no more problem.
