Question about replacing a T40 motherboard

#1 Post by victorguttmann » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:51 pm

Hey all. I've been hovering around in the forums for awhile but this is going to be my first post...

I've got a T40 thats been out of warranty for awhile and its experiencing what seems like the legendary "random lock ups/black screens". I've tried swapping RAM and switching between the 2 so-dimms and no luck with that. I'm sure its the motherboard from what I've read in the forums here (unless someone comes along and enlightens me to another problem it can be).

Anyways, my question... will any Tx motherboard work as a replacement? I've read a bunch of posts and basically I'm confused now. My FRU is 91P7716.

Any help is greatly appreciated and the quicker the better because I'm currently stalking an ebay auction.

Thanks everyone and its good to finally be apart of the club!

Yes, you can use any T40/p,T41/p or T42/p motherboard, the trick is if you got one from with 64mb or 128mb of video memory you will need to replace the fan with a long one. ( M10 Fan )

Okay, I've got the same problem, sort of . . . I've got a T40p (2373-G1U) that needs a new system board. Am I to understand from the above posts that I can use any T40/41/42 motherboard in it?

My system board is 93P3304. It's got the 64mb ATI Fire GL 9000 video card. Does this mean that I already have the long fan?

Sorry if these are really basic questions . . . I am not a tech.

Gracias. I think I'll pass on the seller who's in Malayisa, but the other one might work. Pretty pricey, but I guess that's the going rate.

I bought 2 boards from her (ITThinker) when I needed particular things. The first was fine. The second would run for 15 minutes, then die. It turned out the main memory slot was bad. Her boards do say "as-is". If you have a problem, she doesn't answer emails.
