Why doesn't the T60 6-cell battery fit the Z61m?

#1 Post by icyfire » Wed Apr 04, 2007 10:13 am

Hi all,

My father-in-law has a T60 and I wanted to borrow his 9-cell for a trip, but he brought me the 6-cell instead. The 6-cell, aside from the wavy design ridges on the bottom, is physically identical to the 6-cell in my Z61m. However, there is a small metal key on the notebook preventing it from fitting.

This seems stupid for Lenovo to do this, aside from forcing consumers to buy different batteries. It does puzzle me, however, that they would design a 9-cell to fit the T60, R60 and Z60, but the 6-cell only fits the T60 and R60.

Is the battery firmware designed just for the T60 and R60? What's the deal here? I thought about cutting the key on my notebook (except for the possibility of voiding my warranty).

Thanks,

Josh

Unfortunately no, as I just bought my Z61m and I really don't want to void the warranty, although Lenovo would never check for that stupid key. I started to cut the tab, but the metal was scoured in such a way that cutting would be obvious, so I backed off.

I was just curious what the differences were because it seems awful stupid to key a notebook just for style reasons (the wavy ridges).[/quote]
