WTB - A3Xp Recovery CDs

#1 Post by JHEM » Wed Sep 29, 2004 10:38 am

Anyone got a set of recovery CDs for an A30p/A31p based system?

Willing to buy an original set if anyone's got an "extra" set, or will gladly pay for a set of copies.

Regards,

James

Any way to make them from a system? I have both an a31 and a30 with the images on the hd. Is there a way to extract to cd's for you?

Hello James,

You could generate (via imaging tools) a copy of the hidden service partition on any A3(0/1)P and write it back to another tp. Using F11, YOu could start a recovery (i. e. a clean installation).

started with IBM-XT (80186) and AST-Ascentias NB (910N) in the 90ties, relying on Thinkpads (770X, A31Ps) until 2012,
now using an upgraded T60-61P "Frankenpad" (15"UXGA-LED Penryn 8GB 500GB/7200), and an X201/X230T (i7 8/16GB/500GB) Windows10

OK, I got a set of W2K recovery CDs from IBM today and attempted to restore it to the A30p.

I must be even more incompetent than normal as I can't get the second (applications) CD to install as there's no particular point in the recovery process where you're prompted to replace the BOOT CD.

I have to admit that this is the first time I've been thwarted in many a year of recovering ALL manner of Thinkpads! WTH am I doing wrong? I've GOT to be overlooking something obvious!

Am upgrading my offer to buy a set of CDs to "will kiss your tuckus in Macy's window" for a set of XP recovery CDs!!!

HELP!

James

Hello James,

why don't You go back to using F11/ restoring form the hidden partition,
skipped it?

if You posess both pqmagic (or the like) and drive image V. 7.01 (must) I could try to help You out by means of a copy of a hidden partition backup (on 2 CDs, xp/uk-version).

Friedrich,

Es gibt keine F11/Restore!

Not the original HD, so there's no recovery partition. Thanks for the offer of the CDs, but I'm sure there are closer sources I can tap.

I'm sure Bill has a set in the library, but I don't want to bother him at the moment as he's a bit busy cleaning up after the hurricane.

There's an A3Xp devotee' just up the road from me in NYC that I'll have to email, I'm sure he'll burn a set for me if I ask.

Danke,

James

James,

I think I found something that Bill Morrow sent me quite some time ago. I beleive that it's the WinXP recovery disk for A30p. Email me your address and I'll shoot a copy off to you if you still need it. I'm struggling myself with my A30p refusing to boot after updating to XP SP2. Getting an error saying that HAL.DLL is missing. I may pick your brain about this later when I have a chance to dig into this more.

Bill,

That's a very generous offer. You've got mail!
