Eliminating Strand of Hair Under ThinkPad Screen

#1 Post by BOHICA » Thu Apr 05, 2007 7:02 pm

Somehow, after 2 years of use, a strand of hair (eyelash) has gotten stuck under my T42's active matrix screen and rests about an inch from the right-hand side. I've tried to ignore it, but it is driving me nuts!

To remove this foreign body, I'm not sure if it is best to send it to Lenovo, or whether it is something a local computer repair shop might handle --or perhaps something I may even be able to handle at home. Thus far, I've tried to knock the hair towards the side of the screen without success and, not wishing to damage the screen, have given up.

Any recommendations from other users who have experienced this problem?

This is the only thread that I remember from the last several months that mentioned a hair in the LCD:

No word on the final outcome from dsigma6 on what has happened to the moving object inside his panel.

Wow, impressive! If it's under warranty, you could try calling Lenovo, but honestly I don't think they would pay for it. It is possible to take the LCD apart and remove the hair, but it would not be an easy operation, and you would be charged accordingly.

Taking apart the "glass sandwich" is normally done in a clean room. I wouldn't suggest trying it yourself.

Last year a bug was crawling under my T42's LCD. With white background it was so easier to spot. I had no idea where it came from.
