TP21 won't start

#1 Post by Dabbler » Fri Apr 06, 2007 1:10 pm

Having read the other threads here on non-starting TPs I just had some additional questions.

Power and HD LED light blink once on my 2647-9BU when I press the power on button, does that indicate anything significant? My battery light is solid green when I attach power supply.

I tried the instructions for removing devices and re-inserting, nothing was mentioned about CMOS battery, does this need to be unplugged too? I'm sure mine is marginal or dead after 7 years ;) Can a replacement CMOS battery be obtained easily?

Thanks much!
Michael

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

The symptoms you describe fit the "blink of death" syndrome. I have a T21 and T22 with this problem. A brief flash of the hard drive LED when the power button is pressed and that's it. I have had some limited success (it seems) by removing the main battery and AC adapter for a couple of days. When I last did this (and the laptop powered up successfully a couple of times), the CMOS battery was left in place.

A genuine replacement CMOS battery (02K6572) can be obtained on-line at various places (eBay, battery stores, etc.) but I doubt that your problem is due to a bad battery.

Thanks for that, I like your moniker for the symptom!

Just to clarify... I did not come up with that name. I believe it was coined by AbsoluteRaleigh. You can sometimes see it referred by the designation, BoD (not to be confused with BSOD; Blue Screen of Death) or my A31's RCBOD (Random Colored Blocks of Death) :) .
