No sound on IBM Thinkpad 755

Hello everyone, im hoping maybe someone can help me out here. my thinkpad 755 used to have sound but now all of a sudden it doesnt. The sound icon in the bottom right corner doesnt even show up. Strangely enough, no driver issues and the pc speakers work fine. I dont know what else I can do, anyone have any ideas?

In Win95, you used to have to install the audio driver twice. Then go fix the errors due to redundant lines in the system.ini etc.

I will try that again but what confuses me is that one day the sound was working perfectly and all of a sudden it stopped working the next time i tried it. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver but nothing happened.
