CPU Temp Too Hot?

#1 Post by fanisdead » Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:32 am

Thanks to Sugo, richk, and Temetka for helping me fix my ram issues.

I have another question regarding my CPU speed.

First I am using a T42 (2378-FVU) at 1.7 ghz and 1 gig of ram.

I am using Mobilmeter and my CPU temperate is hovering around 53-55C is this too hot?

I installed a new CPU fan today my old one had died. I used arctic fox thermal gel with about a small half grain of rice dab.

These temps btw were recorded after a restart. Only application i am running is firefox.

Thanks!

Okay i changed my CPU performance to adaptive mode and now the temp has fallen down to the 46-48 range.

Is this about right or again too high?

Bingo. Your cpu was on max performance thus the high temperature.

46-48 sounds reasonable. My T42 with 1.7GHz idles at around 45'C with adaptive scheme/AC power.

How hot does it run when you're running intense apps? I tried playing some Battlefield 1942 last night, ran fine but after 15 mins of gameplay the CPU was clocking around 82C that seems wayyy to high too me, especially since Windows reduces CPU power at 88C.

I'm just afraid I installed the cpu fan + thermal gel wrong.

Around 70'C when cpu runs at 1.7GHz 100% load for extended period. I use RMClock to undervolt the cpu though.

So is 82-84C range too high?

Should I try to reinstall the cpu fan or something?

The first time I installed it the CPU was wayyy too hot like 62-65C range while idle. I realized I had put wayyyyy too much thermal gel (like a huge dab) so I reduced it to a little half grain of rice size dab and spread it evenly on the processor.
