Verizon built into T60....update PRL list?

#1 Post by stephenaron » Sat Apr 07, 2007 8:13 pm

I have been using the built in Verizon card with Vista for a while now. Works ok, but was wondering how do we update the PRL list. This is the list that tells the card info on towers to connect to. Just like a phone, you can and should update the Verizon built in. Thoughts? Help? Vista doesnt use the "watcher" program that we used with XP.

I'm not running Vista on my X60s just yet, but here is how you can update the PRL list in XP. It should work in Vista. Are you still running VZAccess Manager? If so, select Activation from the Options pull-down menu. The activation option isn't just for initial sign up. It also updates the PRL list.

A Verizon Wireless techie I spoke with recommended doing this at least once a month.

Oh, well, I figured it was worth a try.

So VZAccess Manager isn't Vista compatible, and you're supposed to use ThinkVantage Access Connections exclusively for the WAN modem? That would leave a void. VZAccess Manager isn't required for XP, but it's useful for updating the PRL list and tracking your cumulative downloads for the month.

I agree with you on its usefulness. I just dont see where on IBM's site we are to download VZ Access Mgmr. I think you can download it from vzw.smithmicro.com, but havent done so.

Since I'm thinking about upgrading to Vista, this would be an issue for me, too. I found the web page for downloading VZAccess Manager (http://vzam.net/). Looks like version 6.0.2 is Vista-compatible.

I just installed VZ Access Mgmr. It seems to work, but doesnt show signal strength. I think i will use Access Connections in general, and launch Access Manager when i want to update the cards PRL.

Using both makes sense. I'll do the same after upgrading to Vista.

Thanks for testing the waters. I didn't want to upgrade if it meant I couldn't have full use of the Verizon modem.
