I think I got a pretty good deal on the original laptop, what do you think? The laptop came with a weird smudge and marks on the lid, but I removed it all with WD40, and its now in A grade cosmetic condition.
Also, what do you think of my proposed upgrades? I plan to add a 2nd 1Gb stick in the future.
The laptop will be dual booting Windows XP Pro SP2, and either Ubuntu 7.04 or Gentoo 2006.1.

X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100
I dunno if the 802.11n would be able to fit in x31. The current new releases mini pci only fits core duo laptops as they use mini pci express. Hope if there is a release for n wireless mini pci non express
but hey, you got a good deal on the laptop. 1.25gb ram is really good enough though IMO...

About $350 for the laptop? That's a pretty good price with a few months warranty. When I got mine, the Cisco 802.11b card wasnt working and I called IBM and I had a working card the next morning.

Not bad price
Maybe a lot of people will kill me for writing this... but also a seagate 5400 rpm perpendicular drive would be a nice upgrade. Very silent, and not so slow response launching apps.
If you find a good deal on a 2200 wifi card, would be a better addon.
Last, an Ultrabase X3 has its usefulness.
PS
On ebay there are a lot of cheap (under 15 euro, if I remember) Dock I from a german company. They ship with a lot of care and good packages

12.99 euro

Hi Solitude,
I bought a X31 1.4GHz 512RAM 40Gb HD + X3 base (inc DVD drive) for £415 inc delivery about a month ago... You got a very good deal!!
I was hoping to change the processor at some point but I gather it is soldered onto the board so that isn't possible without a lot of expense so I, like you am going to whip out one of the 256Mb sticks and replace that with a 1Gb stick and go for the hdd upgrade to Hitachi 7k100, 80/100Gb when cash allows so I can run Win XP, Fedora 6, Solaris 10. Make sure you get the ATA drive instead of the SATA drive though, the 7k100 comes in both guises!
I'll definately check out the battery as well as mine is only lasting for about 2 hours at the moment...
Anyway certainly a good find for you there!!
