Are back up CD's needed on T-40

Hi
Should l have back up cd's incase l lose my hard drive or some other problem.

I have the COA wind xp pro. Or is there a way to just download it myself or buy it of get it from Lenovo?

I am not sure about this but you may be able to burn your own discs from the hidden partition -- my T43 and X40 could definitely do it. Go to the Thinkpad folder in the Start menu and look for "Create recovery discs" or something to that effect. If you can't find it, someone on this forum might be able to sell you a copy of the discs for several bucks.

So, is the machine still insanely slow?

Hi

No it's ok, what l didn't realize was that it came with wind xp pro sp1 and l was downloading the updates form the micro site but forgot all about it.

So it was tough trying to download two different programs?

I don't believe you can do this with the T40. You need the factory CDs and you'll probably have to pay about $30 (US). I believe there was a software download (IBM Rescue and Recovery, or something like that) that you could download but it didn't appear to work too well. Should only be an issue if you loose your drive completely, otherwise you can recover from the hidden partition.
