reinstall factory settings on T40

#1 Post by shredfitz » Sun Apr 08, 2007 1:11 pm

All I want to do is restore my T40 to it's original factory settings. I have read that I have a hidden partition that contains the image but I cannot figure out how to include it in the boot sequence. Please help me before I pull my ears off. Thanks so much.

Please don't pull your ears off, shut the machine off, wait a few seconds and restart, you will be prompted to press f11 for reocovery options.

No, I am not prompted for recovery options. The only prompt that I get is 'to interrupt normal startup push the access IBM button' or something like that. I am still about to pull my ears off. All I want to do is restore this thing back to factory settings. Thank you for your help.

Ok, don't pull them just yet.
Pushing the Access IBM button during bootup should do the trick. It will also ask you to push F11 after (sometimes). If this does not work, then your hidden partition might not be present or might be corrupted.

OK. The Access button gives me the 'Startup Interrupt Menu'

and says:

ESC to resume normal startup
F1 to enter the IBM BIOS Setup Utility
F12 to choose a temporary startup device

so now what?

Pull your ears off!

Apparently the recovery partition has been removed or disabled.

You can try this solution, but if the recovery partition has been removed rather than simply disabled, I'm afraid your ears are gone.

From the various posts above, its seem that your factory restore area is gone. However, its not the end of the world.... for your T40 or your ears! You can do a factory restore from a set of T40/41 rescue and recovery CDs.

You can purchase these from Lenovo or perhaps ask around for someone who has a set and could assist you more directly.

Cheers,

Bill B.
