T23 Problem w/ LCD

#1 Post by mike12 » Sun Apr 08, 2007 3:41 pm

Hi all, new to this forum :)
I got a problem w/ my T23. Couple months ago, the monitor was suddenly gone dark (never dropped / abused / whatsoever). I need to re-adjusted the monitor position so that the screen is on again. After couple weeks I decided to contact IBM support. Sent the laptop, received it back w/ in couple days & it worked fine.

Less than a week, the problem came back again. I wasn't able to send it back since I only have one computer, still in school session & I really need it for school (almost all of my projects, etc are online). During the break I contacted the support again, sent the laptop, got it back, within two weeks the problem getting worse :x Again, I had to live w/ re-adjusting the whole time since school session has started. Now, I just realized that the warranty is expired :(

Any suggestion on how to fix the problem would be appreciated :) Thank you

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I'm assuming that when you say "re-adjusting" that you are simply moving the lid back and forth until the video appears, correct? If so, the next time the screen goes black, do this before moving the screen:

- Shine a bright light on the LCD panel. Can you see any pixel image?
- Gently press the area just to the left of the center screw cover of the LCD bezel (above the T23 legend on the keyboard). Does that help?
- Press and hold the lid switch down; the little post that sticks up just above the "Insert" key. Hold it for a couple of seconds and then release. Did the display return to normal?

Answering those questions may help isolate whether your problem is with the LCD ribbon cable, the lid switch or the inverter. Also, does the LCD backlight have any pink or red tint to it (especially at first power up)?
