how do i go about installing windows?
i have two partitions and one has the files on it.

So that means you can at least boot from your X30's hard drive? Fine. Please DON'T try to repartition and reformat it in your desktop computer as there is the chance that the drive will no longer boot up correctly in your notebook subsequently!

If the starting partition has the FAT32 file system on it (i.e., perhaps you have Windows 98 installed on it), you can try the following:

How to start the Setup program from MS-DOS in Windows XP

Was this of any help to you or do you need further assistance?
