T30 cpu upgrade

#1 Post by pengang » Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:51 pm

My T30 cpu currently runs at 1.6GHz. If I upgrade it to a 2Ghz or 2.2 Ghz cpu, do I need to change the crystal oscillator, or does it just magically run at the higher speed. Thanks in advance.

You just swap your old processor and put the new one in place. There's no thing such a crystal oscillator in laptops. But bare in mind that putting a faster Pentium 4-M processor there will be more heat generated, thus generating your fan to be ON more time than you used to hear it. A good thermal paste is also recommended. If the price for a faster processor is reasonable go for the upgrade, instead, it's better to upgrade RAM and HD for a visible up in performance

it isnt worth upgrading the processor in a t30, even if you "only" have 1,6 ghz. i worked with them at nearly all speeds available from 1,6 to 2,6 ghz and barely noticed a difference.

a faster hard drive is the recommended upgrade for the t30, as well as ram somewhere between 512mb and a gig.

try a search it's been discussed quite frequently.

hope this helps :)

t30 cpu upgrade

Thanks for your input.

Do we know why upgrading to a higher speed doesn't help? Frankly, my T30 is quite fast because it has 1.0 Gb of memory and the disk system is quite fast - 5400rpm seagate 80Gb. But I imagine it can be even faster if the CPU was 2.2ghz.

yes, because in normal office applications the frequency is mostly at 1,2 gigahertz anyways. what makes the t30 faster is ram, gpu, north- and southbridges compared to the t23. and of course hard drive.

in my opinion, your system seems pretty maxed out.

you would probably notice speed enhancements if you did a lot of video encoding for example.
