I think IBM may have screwed up my laptop.. need some help.

I asked the lady on the phone to upgrade to the a/b/g wireless card, and she did, and charged me the installation fee, saying that it would be very difficult to install myself.. I thought the installation would be internal, but they ended up sending me a cardbus adapter.. What should I do? Would it be better to keep this plug in thing or send back the computer to get the whole card installed? I assume if I called, they can get it sorted out, but would it be worth it? Is there a downside to the cardbus adapter?

edit: Also, the side of the keyboard next to the optical drive is very flimsy. This is the only construction problem I can see, so I was wondering if it's a real problem, or just something that I should deal with.

Send the cardbus adapter back! The puny antenna can't compete with the antenna from the mini-pci card. It's not that difficult to install and if necessary you could get a friend to help. You don't want that big ugly thing sticking out the side of your sleek new computer, either. Tell them you want the "installation" fee refunded also :?

ok, thanks.

What about the flimsiness of the part on top of the optical drive? It honestly feels like it can snap off.

sorry for the double post:

Will installing it myself void the warranty? The place I'm at now has a hell of a lot of good computer engineers, so I'm sure they can help me out.

Not much you can do about the flimsy optical drive cover. Yes, the a/b/g card is user installable. Requires removing the keyboard and palmrest.

and no- it's not hard at all

you remove a dozen screws, carefully pop the cover off, and drop the nic in place.
