X22 Good buy?
X22 Good buy?
Hi Y'all
I have a chance to get an X22 - PIII 800, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, and a Media Slice D/S with CD-R/W and FDD.
Asking $250US
I'm planning to up the memory (If I can get a 512mb stick in there I'll be happy), and perhaps a 3com wifi if one pops up on ebay. I currently have a T23 and I love it - perfect for XP. The X22 would be the wife's, it has similar specs to my beloved lappy...
So, does it sound like a good deal?

Does it include a Windows COA sticker? That's worth around $40. If it does, then this is a good deal. If not, the it's just okay.

$250 for a machine that was $2K five years ago is good.
If it had built-in wifi, it'd be better.
It'll run WinXP pretty well with 256MB, better with 384 or more.
A 5400rpm or faster drive makes a difference, too (or an 80GB 4200rpm drive with an 8MB cache).
Enjoy it. X22-X23-X24's are great machines.

Enjoy! It sounds as though you got a great machine at a very fair (I'd say quite good) price. FYI, no internal wifi is not all that big of an issue, IMHO. I highly recommend the 3com x-jack PCMCIA wifi cards, which have a retractable antenna. Very convenient -- you just push the antenna into the card housing when you don't need it or want to stick the machine into a bag. Great range, too -- just as good as some internal wifi cards.

Well, 3com is a dying company, and most new machines have integrated Wifi already. X-Jack Wireless is a relatively new idea, but nonetheless quite well loved - I have yet to see a 3CRPAG175 sell for anything less than $80 on eBay.
