jediknight - Welcome to the forums -

Please update email in your profile.

I have a T60p as in signature. Longtime mac user as in my name. However I have migrated to the business side of life hence why I am here. I am also contemplating purchasing a x60.(s) in my case.
I enjoy the size and power of the T60 series but need the luxury of a ultraportable for work / school. I have indepthly read reviews and find this forum more than experienced. Reviews will shadow highs and lows but this place will have the ins and outs. That my friend is where decisions are made.

I would just buy both and get it over with... I am currently looking for x60s with ultralight screen bluetooth a/b/n etc...

Once I have it in my grasp I could post and quote form this wonderful forum.

You have a question of portability. I chose the T60p for the UXGA screen (discontinued) for that reason. You may have a difficult time getting one (new).

The T60 is an excellent machine you will not be disapointed.

Good luck in your quest.

Welcome to the forum! Yes, I've had both an X60s and a 14.1" T60, and they differ in three main ways:

1) Huge difference in weight ("Is there a laptop in the bag?" vs. shoulder aches)

2) Only the T60 has an internal optical drive

3) All non-tablet X60/60s models only have XGA (1024x768) resolution, whereas the T60 gives you higher resolutions: 1400x1050 (SXGA+), 1680x1050 (WSXGA+), and 1600x1200 (UXGA, currently unavailable as pointed out by Macuser).

You need to decide whether the X60/60s's weight advantage justifies sacrificing the other two factors. Both weight and high resolution are extremely important to me, so it was a tough decision. I ended up keeping the T60 due to its higher resolution, and bought a $250 Dell Axim X51v PDA (the highest-resolution PDA available) for use while traveling so that I don't have to lug around the T60.

Two more suggestions that might help you decide:

1) Are you going to use the laptop mainly on a desk? In that case, the best solution might be to get an X60/60s and an external LCD monitor that stays on that desk. But of course, if you use the laptop mainly on the road, this won't help you.

2) There are four ways to minimize the weight of a T60: Get a 14.1" model, a 6-cell battery, a 65W AC adapter, and replace the optical drive with a travel bezel (which weighs only 0.03 lbs). With all these, the T60 would be only about 1 lb heavier than the heaviest X60, ~4.7 lbs vs. 3.6 lbs excluding the AC adapter.

Please let us know what you end up getting and whether you're happy with the decision!

I think someone mentioned Stanford University's computer store.

If portability is a must, go for the x60, otherwise the T60 is a very good notebook, one of the best in the market indeed...

For the X60, you have only one option, i.e. XGA (1024x768). It's the worst resolution Lenovo (or any other brand for that matter) offers, but if you want portability, that's the only option you can get from Lenovo. Other brands (e.g. Sony, Panasonic, HP) have 1280x800 and 1400x1050 as well.

Frankly, I couldn't stand anything over XGA on 12.1" anyway. I'm sitting here in front of a 19" CRT and I can't decide whether SXGA+ is comfortable enough, or I need to keep it as low as SXGA. I do run SXGA+ on my 15" T42, but only after adjusting DPI and some fonts it became comfortable.

I'm in favor of the T60. The X60 is light, but I like having the options that a modular bay provides (extra battery, optical drive), and the higher resolution displays available on the T60.

The T60 is generally not all that heavy either, at least for the 14" models.

if you're looking for a desktop replacement an X60 is ok. A 22" widescreen lcd costs $300 nowadays.

In case you and/or the OP doesn't already know this: most 20" widescreen LCD monitors have the same resolution as 22" widescreen LCDs, i.e. 1680x1050. But 20" LCDs are quite a bit cheaper, and of course take up less space. So, it might be a better idea to get a 20" one instead. Newegg has some that are just under $200.
