#1 Post by veky » Thu Apr 12, 2007 8:43 am

Hy,

Is posible to change 14" LCD with resolution of 1024x768 with same 14" with 1400x1050?

What is need to be done? Just replacing LCD? Flat cable? Anything else?

Thanks for helping me.

The Thinkpad Hardware Maintenance Manual (search for it online) will tell you exactly what parts you need and how to install them. I think what you need is the LCD panel itself and the inverter cable.

You'll also need a new motherboard with a 1400x1050 video chip if you want that resolution.

The easiest and perhaps cheapest way to do it is sell your XGA T40 and buy an SXGA+ T40. What if you buy the wrong parts? What if you break something? In fact, it might be a good idea to take this opportunity to upgrade to an SXGA+ T42.

No you don't - Radeon 7500 will do the job just fine.

I did it on my T42 with a Radeon 7500. You need the ribbon and monitor of course. To be safe you might want the inverter that goes with it but my old one worked fine too.

My mistake - here are the options for the 32Mb 7500 chip:

1024x768 resolution 32MB ATI Mobility RADEON 7500

Resolution LCD Color depth

640x480 256, 64k, 16M
800x600 256, 64k, 16M
1024x768 256, 64k, 16M
1280x1024 256*, 64k*, 16M*
1600x1200 256*, 64k*, 16M*
2048x1536 256*, 64k*, 16M*

Note: * Supported only in panning mode on LCD

Although, it seems that the majority of forum members don't have this problem.
