Installing Win XP on Thinkpad i1200

I am trying to install Win XP on my thinkpad i1200 series laptop but haven't been able to do so successfully. I have even updated the BIOS from IBM website but it doesn't seem to work. When I boot from win xp cd, I go through all the steps of formatting and then it also copies the system files after that but then when it restarts, the computer stops working when the Windows XP bootscreen comes up. Anyone know what could be wrong. I have been able to install SuSE 9.1 on it successfully.
