fglrx 8bit color ati drivers

#1 Post by ryan » Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:55 am

The ATI fglrx drivers don't allow changing color depth from some hard-coded value (24bit or 32bit, I don't remember) for hardware acceleration.

So, old (8 bit color) games like Starcraft run slugishly in Wine as Wine "upconverts" every 8bit pixel.

Is there an alternative to fglrx that supports 8bit color?

Thanks,
Ryan

uhm... I'm guessing those old 8-bit games aren't using 3D, so can't you use a non-opengl video driver that does support 8-bit color? or don't they?

I suppose you could always use VGA.
