SOLD: X30 P-III M 1.2mhz 40gb 1gb

I recently bought an X31, so I’ve decided to sell my trusty and faithful X30 (2673-42U). This has been my personal laptop for more than 2 years. It has seen quite a bit of use and some travel but is in excellent condition.

The LCD is perfect. No dead or stuck pixels, white spots/pressure points, or surface scratches, abrasions, or marks. Backlight is still bright and strong. I actually prefer this display to the one in my X31, which looks somewhat washed out at the brightest setting. The X30 display is crisp and rich across the full range of brightness settings.

When traveling, I have always used a microfiber screen protector to keep the display free of keyboard abrasions. I have always traveled with the machine in a Zeroshock laptop sleeve slipped into the padded compartment of my business brief. It’s been about as well protected as it possibly could be.

This machine does not have internal wifi. Instead, I have used a 3Com X-Jack PCMCIA b/g wireless card, which is the next best thing, in my opinion. This card has a spring-loaded retractable antenna that can be pushed away when not in use. The antenna serves as the power on/off for the card. It is very convenient for traveling.

The battery is good for about 2.5 hrs on a full charge. It has 328 cycles on it and holds a full charge of 34.66 watts out of a design capacity of 47.52.

Note:
1) the keyboard has seen a good deal of use, but it still crisp and springy. It has the standard shiny spot on the space bar, but none of the letters have worn off.
2) the screw covers have come off the sides of the display, presumably from my repeatedly slipping the machine in and out of the padded sleeve in my business case. See pics for details.

Comes with IBM restore CDs. I will also include the CD that came with the 3Com X-Jack card. It has a setup and diagnostics program and a driver on it.

Do you think so? Underclocker just sold an X24 through the form for (I presume) his asking price of $350. I realize that the lack of internal wifi is a drawback, but the X-Jack card is the next best thing, and very functional. And with the 1.2mhz processor and the 1gb of memory, this machine is quite quick. People doing development work will want something with more power, but most business users will never notice the difference.

I'm certainly willing to consider reasonable offers, but I'd rather hang on to this one than sell it on the cheap. It's a great system, very stable, and very reliable.

Besides, there's always Ebay.

Honestly, I'd personally take an X24 (especially customized like one underclockerhad over any X30. They're more durable, and tend to last longer and wear less physically.

On the other side, I barely got $340 on eBay for my X31 which did have some outside wear but also had a brand new keyboard and hard drive...and it was 1.4 machine with 512Mb RAM...

Huh? As much as I love this forum and have benefited enormously from it, I never ceased to be amazed at the propensity some members have for quibbling over the most inconsequential details. Is any empirical basis for your contention that the X24s, as a general rule, are more durable, long-lasting, and better wearing than the X3x machines? I owned an X22 for a couple of years, and it was a great machine. This X30 has been better, IMHO, in many ways, including its durability, stability, and reliability. And the X31 I'm using now is just as good. But frankly, they have all been great tools for getting work done, which is the bottom line as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't mean, by any means, to offend the owner of the machine or the machine itself. We all have our prices and sometimes feel compelled to defend them.

As per my experience in Verizon New York Field Operations for about a decade now, we've had both models and then some, before some genius decided to switch to ToughBooks. And some of the X24s are still hanging around while all the X30s have been buried with honours. And I'm not talking one or two pieces. I'm talking dozens. And my personal experience testifies to the same path. I've had at least 8 X24s, a couple of X22s, and 3 X30s, along with an X31. With three small kids in the house.So I'd tend to say that I know what I'm talking about.

And for the record, an X30 with wi-fi and BT recently sold for $230 on eBay, and from a trusted seller. So it's a hit or miss, as we all know. And these days, especially on a highly-portable machine like X series are, wi-fi is next to everything in most buyers' eyes.

You may get the price that you're looking for if you take out your RAM and sell it separately, and replace what you currently have with a single 256Mb chip for selling purposes. That's just my opinion, though, but my 400+ feedback on eBay built mostly on buying and selling ThinkPad related goods would also tend to state that I know what I'm talking about.

Whatever the outcome of this particular sale, keep on ThinkPadding. We all have our tastes, and preferences, and can sometimes get upset when someone disagrees, but we're all in the same boat, using the one of the very few notebooks with character.
