Restore to Factory Error?

#1 Post by PatrickE » Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:02 am

My HD has been messing up for the past week, won't allow me to open a My Computer window or any folder for that matter, so I decided to upgrade my HD in the process. I ordered a 7k100.

Using the recovery disks that I made 3 months ago , I attempted to load them on my new 7k100. I get through the whole process, all 7 disks and R&R reboots and I attempt to restore to factory from the R&R console, as I have read that is what you are supposed to do after using the cds. I then get the following error "X:\Preboot\utils\convert.cmd is missing" and I cannot proceed.

Using my old hard drive that still kind of works, I attempt to restore it back to factory and get the same error. I can only assume that because I made these disks either my HPA or R&R is corrupt.

So what are my options? Order new recovery disks and hope that those work? Anyone willing to sell me a set that is known to work?

Any help is appreciated

Alternateively If you deleted the original C partition you could make a Windows bootable Setup CD from the I386 on your Thinkpad, download drivers and integrate those in the CD. I remember somewhere in the net is a guide on how to do this. But if you want to have your Thinkpad as it came, then you would need to order from Lenovo.

I thought about that, but I cannot access any folder on my hard drive. Attempting to open any folder causes a windows explorer crash.

Looks like I will be calling Lenovo today.

I've encountered the same problem.
Has anyone been able to solve it yet?
I would be very glad about any advice.
