I second that.

Installed 2GB DDR2 667mHz Crucial branded board. Like previous posts mentioned, oo boot up issue, but the OS only see 2GB, instead of 2.5GB.

X41 tablet <-- Kingston 667MHz CL5 no issues, 2G visible.

Runs at 400MHz, 4-3-3-9 timings (same as before upgrade), though in spd the 2g module has 3-3-3-9 and according to cpu-z, first sodimm is disabled (which is obviously not true because of the 128 MB gma900 buffer, but that is chipsets matter what it reveals to programs).

Mem throughput has improved slightly in everest (read ~2450MB/s before, ~2600 after upgrade). Measured everest latency is 122ns, I expected a bit less :(.

2.5GB installed but only 1.99GB visible

HI,

I've added the /3GB tag in the boot.ini file but the system is still not seeing 2.5GB. Having read this thread I can't work ut a fix for this. My BIOS is completely up to date 2.0.9 version.

Anyone have any fixes for this? :)

I'm not entirely sure what it means, but it appears contradictory.
No contradiction here, there is 2.5G memory physically installed, but only 2G are addressable by OS through 915GM chipset.

Hi all
I have an x41 tablet type 1869-CSU.
It currently has 512MB.
I want to get a compatible 2GB stick for it.
Which model will work for me? Will this one do? - KINGSTON KTM-TP3840/2G 533 MHz ( PC2-4200 )

Thanks,
Itamar

Ok thanx. But is it not 1gb memstick which is the largest ddr Sodimm 200? Because my ibm har 512mb as standard, and I have supplied it with another 512mb. So if I were to incease my memory to the max, it would be 1500mb. Is this correct or is it also possible to switch the internal 512mb to 1024?

That is correct. X40 gets up to 1 GB SODIMM plus either 256 MB or 512 MB soldered on board.

in X40, How about putting a SO-DIMM 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHZ KINGSTON 200pin + 512 on board = 2,5 gb memory total. Of curse the speed will clock down to 333 mhz but will it work? so that i will get 2,5 gb of total memory ?

1. My x41 tablet BIOS version is 2.0.6. Where did you guys found bios 2.0.9 ?
I've found this :
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 59206.html but apparenltly it is not for tables or not for mode 1866-6SU which is mine.

2. I've installed a 2 gig sodimm and the systems sees 1.99 gb and seems zippier. I activated /3GB and couldn't bot anymore and had to go to safe mode in order to undo the boot.ini change. Any thoughts on that ?

According to this :
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pl ... AEmem.mspx
/3GB only allows a process to use up to 3GB but doesn't forbid the OS from using all the 2GB of ram for multiple things so I guess it's all good.

p.s. The thing that seems to work better for me is the track point that always seemed to have a mind of this own before. Now it seems to work smoothly with no problem. maybe it's due to the electronics on the new mem chip and not it's capacity.

Here are some photos of a x41 tablet that shows:
1. ZIF-IDE converted hard drive(60gb, 4200rpm). I couldn't find the casing and the adapter/converter kit anywhere online. IMO it's a very well designed case. Anything that I decide not to take apart is well designed. Laughing
2. 2gb+512mb memory configuration: XP shows 2gb, Linux(2.6kernel) shows 2gb, MacOSX Leopard(10.5.1) shows 2.5gb.
3. Some misc. info. Ex. hard drive geometry info and benchmeark in both windows and linux, three antenna customization for abgn wireless card before I found out about the white list, the 2gb memory module I got from newegg, 915gm vga wiring hack to solve "blue screen hang" for MacOSX, etc.

Let me know if I should delete this since it's a crosspost.

So it means 2.5GB will work in MacOSX?

I Guess the reason for Mac OS can see all the 2.5GB is that it totally bypasses the BIOS, while it's the main reason for that we only see 2GB in Windows (or Linux). So... I think the answer is yes, one can see 2.5GB in Mac OS.

By the way, I don't think it's a good idea to install Mac OS on X41 just because you don't wanna waste that 512MB.

windows can "see" 2.5G too, but 2GB is actually what chipset will let you address, i dont believe, that MacOS will be able to make use of it, still there is the GMA buffer...

Yes, windows (VISTA) can see 2.5GB as well, only if service pack 1 is installed. Today I tried to install VISTA services pack 1 on my X41 tablet, and amazingly after the installation, in the system (under control panel) it shows 2.5GB RAM (instead of 2038MB before I installed SP1). Although it's a really long process to install SP1 onto this X41, it turns out to be worth it because the machine is even more responsive. I don't think it's because the extra 512MB RAM is seen by windows, but because it implements the Readyboost more efficiently (I have 2GB SD card to enable readyboost). Anyway, I am not thinking of going back to XP tablet now because I don't like something about XP tablet. VISTA looks fine to me.

For those using Windows 7, I can report that today I successfully installed an:

- OCZ 2GB 677 Mhz SODIMM Module (OCZ2mV6672G) - price (Canadian $29) today @ infonec.com

into a:

- Lenovo X41 Tablet 1866-6SU

running Windows 7 release candidate and it works just fine. On the system screen it shows:

- Installed memory (RAM): 2.50 GB (1.99 GB usable)

Thanks to all on this forum for pointing me in the right direction. Previously I had 1.5 GB installed. It was worth $29 for me to get an extra 500 MB of RAM.

If one was to install a SD card (I have a 4GB one here somewhere) will Windows 7 be able to access this memory and use it for Readyboost purposes assuming my SD card supports it?

Shame I found this forum and thread after I ordered a 1GB stick for the tablet...:( Oh well...

Win7 will test it for speed. It will reject it for ReadyBoost if the speed is too slow.

HyperX may be made for higher performance market and contain parameters in SPD that X41 doesn't like. I think ValueRAM has a blank SPD.

In my experience the only RAM that failed and had to be returned was Corsair. It was a big ordeal for me since I did a Windows update after increasing RAM and messed up the OS.

Neither Kingston and Corsair design and fab DRAM. Even if the chips are marked Corsair etc, they likely were sourced from a DRAM producer.

This is a PC2-5300 and should work. Was it new in retail package or used one? Can you return it and get a replacement.
