Oh, absolutely! I'm saving what Bill pays me to get a Happy Meal. If I'm frugal, I'll probably have enough in about 10 years... Maybe...3nigma wrote:Do the mods here have dayjobs, or do you get paid by the advertising revenue of the site to just mod people?
Are you just trying to get yourself booted from the forum to see if we'll do it? Slow weekend and all that?
None of the admins or mods are paid staff. That includes Bill since I doubt that he gets enough from the advertising and donations to even pay for the forum costs let alone have any left over.

I am in no position to say anything about this matter but this person is having some serious issues everywhere on this board.3nigma wrote:Do the mods here have dayjobs, or do you get paid by the advertising revenue of the site to just mod people?

I don't mind moderation one bit. I wish there were more moderation even in the real world. There's way too much trash in Hollywood and in the media nowadays. I am HUGE on this.
I don't mind the moderation, it is helpful. It is just annoying that the mods do it with such apparent attitude, and seeming condescendence. This may be reading into it, but I don't think it is misplaced. I am not the first to point this out, I just joined the crew.
Key words: apparent attitude, and seeming condescendence. I cannot say that this is indeed the case, but it would seem apparent.
I sincerely don't mind moderation, it's just wielded like a club on these forums. A "club" as in a weapon, and a "club" as in a clique.
Lenovo could add a hybrid HDD with Flash on it as well, for faster bootup times, etc.

3nigma, Around here we expect our forum members to act like well mannered adults not mouthy teenagers.
As long as you keep it civil you will not feel the club on your head. When you post things like
One question, Since you have moved on to macs anyway (which is fine), what is drawing you here?? Just looking for a place to complain? Or are you trying to go out with a BANG!

I've never been on a more heavily modded forum ever. It feels like big brother weighing over you and pushing you down.
You're gonna feel the club on your head and smarting off to Nonny is a good way to get booted. If not by her, by another admin.Do the mods here have dayjobs, or do you get paid by the advertising revenue of the site to just mod people?

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. I, as a member of this forum, am expected to be reasonable and not be mouthy.carbon_unit wrote:Since you have moved on to macs anyway (which is fine), what is drawing you here?? But then you, as a moderator, can in the exact same post turn around and be mouthy to me. "Are you just looking for a place to complain?" But even worse, "Are you just trying to go out with a BANG!"
You even took the time to capitalize "BANG!" and add an exclamation point. This is exactly what I was referring to when I said "condescendence." The rules don't apply to the mods or something.
Just because I have a Mac doesn't mean I don't appreciate and still won't be getting a T60/T61 either, so what.

No. Just an observation. I would have said the same thing even if I was not a moderator.See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. I, as a member of this forum, am expected to be reasonable and not be mouthy.

I used to speak out more often but now I have to tone it down to avoid the same response you just gave.
I am not the only one here who does not like your attitude. I have had several PM's from other forum members telling me they agree with me.
Look man, just lose the attitude and everything will be fine.
You are creating the situation, not me or any other mod/admin.
If you want to contribute in an orderly fashion your participation is wholeheartedly welcome. If you are here to complain about the moderation you are welcome to find a forum with moderation more to your liking.

3nigma, that statement is so rude on so many levels. However strict you you think this forum has been to you, this is no way to respond. Understand that this was not and never will be a revenue driven forum. The site owner does NOT do this for money or fame ... neither do the mods. Most mods are very educated, well placed in life and are highly respected people. They are here because they genuinely like thinkpads and have so much experience that they can help people sort out issues.3nigma wrote:Do the mods here have dayjobs, or do you get paid by the advertising revenue of the site to just mod people?
I really do not understand why you feel the mods have a condescending attitue. They are amongst the nicest people I have met on this forum. While constructive critisicm is always welcome since it brings out some good points to discuss, personal jabs like the one above will lead you nowhere. Keep it civil and you have lots to reap from the information that is here.
It is easy to splatter mud; but when it comes to cleaning, you will have to do lots of work. Reputation is hard earned, don't just put your foot on a bed of nails right in the beginning.

I never said it wasn't rude- I was being rude.gator wrote:3nigma, that statement is so rude on so many levels.
That's really funny. In the post right before yours, carbon_unit even said he would have made that mouthy comment whether he was a mod or not.gator wrote: I really do not understand why you feel the mods have a condescending attitue.
It's okay to say that the mods aren't condescending. But to say that you don't understand why *I* feel the mods have been condescending, that makes you look silly. The mod just got done saying that he's had to tone it down in the past, saying that in the past he hasn't always been as "civil" as now.
See what I'm saying?
Conversation over.

You're losing this silly battle, and are on your way to getting banned.
Now the conversation is over.

I am going to chime in here, even though this thread is locked...gator wrote:3nigma, that statement is so rude on so many levels.3nigma wrote:Do the mods here have dayjobs, or do you get paid by the advertising revenue of the site to just mod people?
I agree that the statement is rude...infact, I am quite offended by it, since I take time out of the day to come here and help out, WITHOUT compensation, to keep this place as nice and friendly as it is.
I do not seek compensation, because I enjoy what I do....but to insinuate that our actions are based on advertising that is used to keep this site afloat is down right offensive.

while i am 100% offended, i think i will take 3nigma's comments as a bad joke and pass it off as humor..
no one gets paid and FWIW, i have never been paid for the last 10~ years of running a forum for thinkpads..
the ads and the donate button appeared because i am tired of spending all day working to keep things working, here..
and paying for the priviledge..
i really don't see why you are here and not on a MAC forum..
you are invided back to comment on the mac and its build quality and support quality vs. thinkpad build and support..
but keep it nice.. ok..?
