New T60 -- Transferring Data and Bloatware/Reformatting

#1 Post by socal531 » Mon Apr 16, 2007 3:35 am

Hi,

Recently I received my new Thinkpad T60 -- the first laptop I've ever owned -- and have a few "dumb" questions.

1. In addition to my new Thinkpad, I've got a desktop and would like to transfer some -- not all -- of the data to the Thinkpad. What's the best (most efficient) way to do so?

2. I've heard of some people claiming that reformatting their Thinkpad as soon as they get it is a wise idea because it'll remove excessive bloatware and allow for a fresh, clean start. Do you recommend this, and will this have any repercussions on the ThinkVantage software program?

3. Never charged a laptop battery before: I assume you just plug the adapter in and forget it. But will the charger stop charging after the battery is juiced? Or do I have to keep a constant vigil over my Thinkpad to remove the charger as soon as it is done charging so as to avoid it overcharging and melting my battery and laptop?

4. I'd like the link to the T60 vs. Macbook Pro discussion.

I realize these are probably silly questions, but I'd appreciate it if you guys could bear with me as I get my feet wet with being a new Thinkpad owner.

Thanks!

2. No. You can remove the software later if you find you don't need it (like Access Connections or DLA etc.). The Software Installer is probably the best tool for managing Lenovo utilities.
