Thinkpad power management problem

Sometimes, after the display is turned off on my T60 (running XP pro) It will not turn on again, despite keyboard and mouse activity. However, toggling the display modes (Fn + F7) will resolve the issue. I would rather not have to do this, is this a known issue or just a random annoyance?
