T40 c r a w l s when on battery
My T40 slows down significantly when on battery power. The mouse pointer takes a long time to move across the screen, windows seem to open and close gradually, etc. Once I pop in the power cord, it zips along as I'm used to it doing. I did try the obvious and adjusted the battery settings to max performance but to no effect. I suspect some type of hardware failure mode - possibly the batter - may be causing this, but was wondering if anyone has heard of such a thing.

I haven't seen this on my t42. Could it be ATI driver? I am using driver version 6.14.10.6422 downloaded from IBM site.
Actually, I haven't experienced any battery charging/stand by/speed/overheat issue that I read a lot on this forum.
I never installed the IBM Battery Maximizer software on a sp2 fresh install. If that even matters.

T4x always slower on battery power
It is my experience that if you set a T4x for maximum system performance when running on battery power, the system will always be a bit slower than it is when running on AC power. It is my experience that some people do not notice the difference in performance until they see a side by side comparison. I guess my experience could by atypical or wrong.

I had this problem on my T41 but the BIOS update released a couple weeks ago fixed it, it was mentioned in the release notes...
If you have the ATI 9000.. Also, make sure on your battery Maximiser that "Graphic Device Power Management" is not checked.
Mine now runs the same on battery or AC. It used to be slow like yours

Be sure to update the embedded controller firmware, THEN the BIOS. Make sure you are on AC power when you do this.
Also, apply the new power managment driver, and new battery maximiser...
