Zone Alarm Pro interferes with security chip

#1 Post by sakowitzm » Tue Apr 17, 2007 1:07 pm

Brand new x60s, pre-loaded with Windows XP/Home.
System boots up a little slowly, but I can live with that.
Then, I install Zone Alarm Pro (I assume v7.0, since I just bought it). Now, on boot-up, system sits at "Checking status of embedded security chip" for exactly 10 minutes. Then I get an error window, with these two messages:

"There was a problem connecting to a critical services."
"Also, check to make sure that the TPM device driver is installed and enabled."

I've looked around, and not found anything that addresses this on an x60s. For others, the solution appears to be to either disable the security chip or uninstall the Client Security Software. If that's the best we can do, so be it... although I suspect doing those things will lead to other problems.

Does anyone have the "right" solution to this problem?

Thanks very much.

Hi sakowitzm,
I got the same problem // error message.
I also did quite a lot research, but no success, yet.
I am thinking of going back to the preinstalled symantec firewall. I just do not like it's user interface.
Please keep me up to date, if you find a solution.

I also experience another problem with the finger print module and zone alarm. Something disables the automatic logon. When I use my finger it gets recognized, but I still have to enter my password. Annoying.

best regards,
neslob

Why not use the built in Firewall in XP? Seems to work fine for me.
Does Vista have a built in firewall?

The OS firewall (of course Vista has it too) is one option.

Another option, if you want something with a user interface, is Kerio. I recommend to stay away from ZoneAlarm. It tends to be obtrusive, cause slowdowns and conflicts with a wide range of hardware and software.
