Reinstall RecordNow in Vista

#1 Post by rmendoza » Wed Apr 18, 2007 5:42 pm

After I did a clean install of Vista, I can't seem to be able to install RecordNow. I downloaded this file from Lenovo's website, but it refuses to install, saying that "this program cannot be used with this hardware". I don't know what hardware it refers to, I suppose it's the CD drive.
I any event, does anyone know of a solution for this problem. As usual, I thank you for your input.

Unfortunately the link doesn't seem to work

There is a problem retrieving the document MIGR-57007URL.

However, you don't need RecordNow. see link

Thanks for the response. However, the WinDVD is still an issue, since you can only play DVDs in WMP if you have a DVD decoder, which I still lack, and am also trying to figure out how to reinstall. In all probability I will download windvd.

The files you download for RecordNow! and WinDVD are only upgrade files. You have to have the application already installed for them to work. I do not know if the XP versions of this software will work in Vista or not. Perhaps in Compatility Mode?

The original installation files for these programs are located in subdirectories of the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\ directory on my T42. There should be a similar directory in the XP factory preload for a T60 (although it may have a different name).

At least up to WinDVD 4 will not work under windows vista. According to our OIT department, it should install, but it will not run.

The only way to have DVD playback in Vista is the following:

1. Order a system from Dell/lenovo/Hp so that you have the factory preload for Vista that includes the AV CODEC . OEM's are allowed to package the Codec for vista in Vista Business... But are not allowed to give you the installer or download it in any way... Thanks MS!!

2. Install either Home Premium or Ultimate as it comes with the Codec from MS.

3. Buy the codec from MS which would be great if they actually had a way to buy it from them.... Which they do want to sell you ---just no mechanism to sell it right now.

4. Buy a 3rd party Vista ready DVD playback package.

[censored]! That's actually what I figured out. I installed the CCCP package as someone suggested in another thread (here), but it didn't work.
I have the previous version of Nero, which I think is not compatible with vista. In any event, I think I will have to shell out the 15 bucks that the DVD playing software costs.
