Password Manager crashes IE7
Password Manager crashes IE7
I like the Password Manager utility, it logs me in to password protected sites and is quite practical.
But it seems like it (Password Manager 2) makes Internet Explorer 7 crash a couple of times a day. I get an error message with
tvtpwm_ie_com.dll, Password Manager IE Browser Hook Object
Is there any way of solving this problem without deactivating Password Manager in IE7?

I'm with you on this one.
It doesn't happen to me everyday, only now and again. But what I really don't understand is; my security chip has always been turned off and as a result I can't use the password manager

Finally it happened to me again as I was surfing this forum, exactly the same error message.
I've uploaded a screenshot here: http://www.nbst.de/tvterror.jpg
As I said I don't have client security activated, so this could be interesting to solve.

OK, now it happens at an increasing rate, several times an hour.

The error is apparently in some "Browser Helper Object" CPwmIEBrowserHelper Object.
I contacted Lenovo Support about it, with a link to this post. Let's see if there's any reaction.
Also downloaded and installed System Update 3 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... VSU-UPDATE

I would start by looking at IE and its add ons. I remember having this problem once. I also dont use password manager.
My guess is that you might have uninstalled CS or Password Manager which removed the .dll file while IE is still looking for it. Because its a addon you can disable it in IE. It appears as a list in tools>options

I haven't disabled or uninstalled Password Manager, it works fine except for the crashes. I would prefer to keep it, very convenient, logs me in to password protected sites as it´s supposed to.chaukap wrote:I would start by looking at IE and its add ons. I can disable or uninstall it and get rid of the crashes, but then I lose most of the benefits of Password Manager. Could use Roboform instead of course, if I can't get this sorted out.

After hazzling IBM support, who at first was quite unwilling to help at all since they didn't want to see this as a "hardware problem".
(Any kind of problem with the security programs delivered with Thinkpads seems to be nobody's problem but the unhappy owner. Not acceptable)
I had Client Security Solution 7, it was supposed to be CSS 8.
I also had Rescue & Recovery 3, to install CSS8 you have to upgrade from RR3 to RR4.
So..
1. Downloaded and installed Ugrade assistant for CSS8 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66952
2. Downloaded CSS8 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66952, couldn't install without RR4
3. Downloaded RR4 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66933
4. Had to defragment before installation, installed
5. Installed CSS 8
6. Downloaded and installed Fingerprint Software 5.6 from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66948
So.., it might be sorted out now, we'll see

@ zurfer65
That's something I'm going to give a go at the weekend.
The strange thing is; I received an e-mail from software support saying exactly the same thing approx 3 hours 20 mins after you posted

Well, they should, I mailed a link to this post to support a few days ago. Anyway, it seems like it worked, the crash problems have disappeared.andyP wrote: The strange thing is; I received an e-mail from software support saying exactly the same thing approx 3 hours 20 mins after you postedIs "Big Blue" watching us?

I see this crash often. For me, it always happen if I have two IE7 windows up simultaneously, and it often happen when I edit wiki pages (Confluence) and swap between the two IE windows.
Interestingly enough, the rescue and recovery 4 and Client Security Solution 8 are listed as "extras" and not a required update, so it's strange that is suggested.
