T60 is not booting up-no hard disk activity-no boot screen

#1 Post by muneer_b » Fri Apr 20, 2007 5:30 am

help me out people ;

i had updated my laptop wit IBM system update . it had downloaded win flash & started installing it. All of a sudden somehow my laptops power went out . This caused the laptops to produce beeps & gave me a blue screen full of errors.

When i restarted my laptop ; it doesnt start!!!!!. there is no boot screen , no hard disk activity & no any options(only black/blank screen) . I downloaded the bootable BIOS update CD , but it doesnt run when i insert it into the laptop on startup. I tried all the options posted in the forum here. from pressing fn + space bar , fn + f4 , fn + f7(with an external monitor)

Please note the hard disk activity monitor shows no blinks.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!!!!!!

Truely unfortunate but trust me there is nothing you can do now but send your t60 in for service.

You mean you were updating the Bios? If yes, to which version, to 2.11?

Thanks and good luck!

yes , it was updating BIOS , i dont really recall the version number.
for your info , this t60 is a wide screen edition which i know has a different BIOS from the regular t60 BIOS. A reason for this could be system update downloaded the wrong BIOS . Thanks God i had updated the BIOS only on one laptop(i have to configure two T60s) & havent updated the BIOS on the second laptop

Another information i could add is that the laptop comes with vista Business . Since the place i work in dont as yet fully support windows xp for our cleints , we format laptops & install windows XP pro onto them.

They were couple of solutions in lenovo webiste . As in unplug power cable ; power supply ; battery , dvd rom ; RAM . But those really didnt help.

The laptop starts but there is no any activity going on. I can eject & put in CD`s , but those CDs dont run.

There may be a way

I had this issue before (years ago) with a micron laptop wher eit failed during the BIOS flash and I was able to recover it using a BIOS flash floppy. I know the t60 does not havea floppy but there may be a way to work around this issue without having to send the laptop back to Lenovo. Have you conacted Lenovo yet? I would be interested to hear what they have to say.

I've just looked at a T60 wide: 8744-HDG
BIOS Version 1.04 7IET23WW. The default boot order is first USB Floppy, then CD followed by USB CD and HDD0.
It may be worth downloading and trying to load a new BIOS from FDD, if that doesn't work I think Lenovo need to come up with some ideas for you.

Good Luck

Ouch  That's not good news. I've just searched the Lenovo site for the BIOS number, all results were for Cds. :(
I know you said CDs didn't work in a previous post, were these the BIOS update CDs? If not it may be worth a try, but this is sadly not looking good. :(

Yes, it was the BIOS update CDs . I tired the same BIOS boot CD on another T60 laptop , & it was booting .
Is their any other suggestion ?

If not I guess i have to hand it in over to the service centre.

Regretably I don't think you have any option. :(
