I have a T43 that I connect to a port replicator in my office. I have a Viewsonic VP191b monitor (19" lcd). It works fine when using the VGA cable to connect the port replicator to the monitor, but....
Colleagues tell me that they get a substantially nicer image quality when connecting using a dvi cable. When I connect it this way (to the same monitor), I get no image on the external monitor. The physical cable connections seem fine, just no image on screen.
I'm guessing I'm missing the obvious. Suggestions?
Thanks much.
External monitor, dvi vs. vga
check the driver settings in windows. go to display properties, advanced, then displays and disable the external monitor and enable the external flat panel instead. the grahics adapter has only two ramdacs so you can't use more than two monitors at a time. (e.g. internal panel + dvi or internal panel + vga or vga + dvi) good luck...

I'm using a T42 with an IBM L170 TFT. The DVI image is crisper and better defined than using the VGA input.
I've setup schemes in Presentation Manager to be able to easily switch between using the VGA and DVI when docked.

It works!
Next question: now, when I leave the office and want to plug in our projector, using a VGA cable, am I going to have trouble with that? Or is it sufficient to have a "projector" setup in Presentation Director that specifies those settings, i.e. display laptop + projector?
Thanks very much, I'm thrilled to finally have this working.
