T43 Memory Upgrade Help

#1 Post by ppk800 » Fri Apr 20, 2007 1:26 pm

Hi,
Currently I have 2x512MB of memory on my T43. I'm thinking about upgrading to 2x1GB. Please help me answer these two questions:

(1) Are both the existing RAMs removable so that I can replace them with the two new 1GB RAMs?

(2) Which memory works best or does not work. I've narrowed down a few:

(a) CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit.

(b) Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit

Thanks so much,

Mike

Yes. Any PC2-4200 CL4 or PC2-5300 CL5 should work. BTW, I was told by another forum member that the T43 supports dual channel mode. Even if it didn't, it's okay to put two identical modules (such as the 2x1GB kits you're considering) into the slots.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Yes. One memory slot is on the bottom of the planar board and is externally accessible via removeable cover.

The other memory slot is on the top side of the planar and requires partialy disassembly of the T43 to get at it. There are instructions on the Lenovo T43 support web site about how to do that.... it's not hard, as long as you keep track of the screws you remove!

Cheers,

Bill B.

Thanks guys for your prompt responses. I just printed out the instructions on how to install the memory in the expansion and underneath-the-keyboard slots.

Which one of the two above-mentioned kits would you recommend to achieve the best performance boost? Furthermore, would either one help noticeably improve the performance of my T43?

Thanks,

Mike

Go with Corsair.

Well, it depends what you do with your laptop. If you do photoshoping, then you will see noticable gain. If you use laptop to run office and surfing, that investment would be overkill imho.
