Dock II and Video Card

#1 Post by Raindrop » Sun Oct 03, 2004 4:50 pm

Just curious if anyone is aware of a short run of Video Cards that were produced to go in the earlier iteration Docks??? As part of an exchange with IBM I just sent back a Dock for my older Thinkpad because it wasn't compatible with my T40 replacement machine. IBM sent me a new Dock II but my tech just asked me if I had pulled the old video card out of the dock prior to returning it. Seems that IBM for a very short time produced a card that would generate a higher resolution output in a larger format. I have an IBM 18" LCD for use at home and am curious how bad I messed up??? The old dock had user accessible screws on the bottom while the new Dock has the security type screws.

Does anyone here know anything about these IBM produced video cards for the Docks? Was it viable with the new Dock II that IBM sent?? Just how bad did I screw up and is it worth trying to get IBM to return the card ( since I just shipped the dock yesterday)?

Thanks in advance for any input.

As far as I know, any PCI video card will work in a dock. Just get a new one. I think the common choices today are the ATI 7500 or the NVidia 5200FX at the low end or QUADRO cards for workstation-level stuff.

You can also just use the pass through video.
