hello -
i have obtained another hard rive and the adapter to put it in my ultra bay slot.
I want to put windows vista on the new hard drive, and put my existing one iwht XP in the ultrabay.
are you able to specifiy which one to boot from when you first start the thinkpad?
or will it only boot from the primary hard drive ?
thanks,

2nd hdd in ultrabay
You can boot either hard drive. If you press F12 at the IBM splash screen, you get a choice of which drive to boot. If you do not do anything, the drive in the primary hard drive slot is the one that will boot. If there is no drive in the primary drive slot, then the Ultrabay Slim drive is the one that will boot. Whichever drive boots becomes the C: drive, and the other the D: drive (assuming only one partition on each drive).
NOTE 1: If the XP drive is in the ThinkPad while installing Vista, then Vista will put a boot manager on the XP drive. The boot manager will default to Vista. You have to choose XP while the boot menu is displayed to boot into XP. If you remove the Vista drive and reboot, you have to choose XP or the ThinkPad won't boot. If you install Vista with the XP drive removed from the ThinkPad, then the Vista boot manager will not be installed and you can use F12 to choose which drive to boot.
NOTE 2: If the XP drive is in the ThinkPad while installing Vista, the boot manager that Vista will install will disable booting into Rescue and Recovery using the blue Access IBM button or ThinkVantage button.
